The business/careers-oriented social site LinkedIn studied internal data to determine the fastest-growing skills among software engineers, finding that Google's Flutter topped the list with its unique approach to mobile app development.
Flutter, described as a mobile UI framework, is unique in that it uses the Dart programming language, its own widgets (instead of native platform widgets), hardware acceleration for glitch-free, jank-free graphics at the native speed of devices, "stateful hot reload" and more.
That uniqueness may have helped propel the open source project to the top of LinkedIn's list of fastest-growing software engineering skills, as presented in a blog post that the company published this week to hawk its learning resources for the technologies on the list.
The full list is:
- Flutter
- Android Design
- NUXT.JS
- Continuous Integration and Development
- Angular Material
"Flutter, an application development SDK created by Google, officially released in May of 2017. Today -- less than two years later -- it's the fastest-growing skill among software engineers, as mobile developers are increasingly leaning on to develop new Android apps," LinkedIn said.
The company also provided a list of the fastest-growing soft skills among software engineering managers:
- People Management
- Leadership
- Team Management
- Team Building
- Strategic Planning
Moving up the pay scale, yet another list discloses the fastest-growing skills among CEOs of software companies:
- Blockchain
- Cryptocurrency
- React.JS
- Docker Products
- Front-End Development
LinkedIn said its lists were determined by ranking the growth rates of site members in the selected occupations claiming the skill in the past 12 months. You can read more here.
