Thinking of going the freelance developer route? Toptal, which specializes in connecting "elite" freelance developers with companies looking to farm out projects, might help you decide if you're skilled up in the right areas.
Mining its own internal data, the company just published a list of the databases, programming languages and frameworks/libraries most in demand from its client employers in the first quarter.
Toptal screens freelance developer candidates to winnow its talent pool down to what it says are the top 3 percent of coders, who it matches up with companies needing temporary help with development projects.
Here's the list of top-requested skills:

- JavaScript
- PHP
- Java
- SQL
- Python
- C#
- Ruby
- Objective-C
- C++
- Swift
Frameworks/Libraries

In one of the most minimal news releases ever, the company also related one more tidbit of information: "The data also found that mobile app development is a frequent request, with U.S. companies starting with iOS, and companies outside the U.S. start with Android development."
There, now you're all set.
