CollabNet Upgrades Agile Dev Platform for Social, Cloud Collaboration

CollabNet recently announced a new version of its TeamForge Agile software development platform with improved Subversion replication, simplified site management and new social coding collaboration features, among other changes.

According to the company, TeamForge 6.1 reduces the time needed to check out large files such as code projects from hours to minutes through the replication of Apache Subversion revision control repositories to local sites with CollabNet Subversion Edge. The simplified site management allows for the delegation of administrative tasks to users who are closer to development projects or workgroups, CollabNet said in a site-hosed briefing. Site-wide roles, the company said, let managers restrict permissions for site administrators or limit access to projects. Also, managers can broadcast site-wide messages, simplifying communication to users.

CollabNet said its "social coding for the enterprise" improvement provides three key components -- "ALM development tools, integrated collaboration tools and the ability to organize and collaborate across projects within a community forge structure" -- for collaborative development and project deployment in the cloud. The tools uses include discussion threads, support for RSS and wikis, featuring utilities developed by the community.

The company also said the new version of TeamForge provides enterprise-grade tools such as a reporting and metrics framework with a datamart, change and defect tracking, and accessibility from Microsoft Outlook.
