Telelogic adds C++, Java support

Telelogic, expanding quickly beyond its embedded systems roots, plans to add C++ and Java support to tools for modeling, requirements and development, according to Per Blysa, vice president of product management for the company's Tau developer tools. Toward that end, Telelogic has unveiled integrated versions of its Tau/Architect and Tau Developer tools, as well as its Doors/Analyst tool.

The new version of Tau/Developer will feature model-driven code generation for C++ and Java, Blysa said. With the new tools, Telelogic adds support for a wide range of industry standards beginning with basing its architecting and developer tools on the new UML 2.0, he explained. The company has long employed XML standards.

Telelogic, which lists Alcatel, BMW, Boeing, DaimlerChrysler, Deutsche Bank, Ericsson, General Motors, Lockheed Martin, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, Philips, Siemens and Vodafone among its customers, is remaining agnostic among development platforms, Blysa said. The company's products support the Eclipse Java IDE and Sun Java Studio, as well as Microsoft .NET, he added.

While he said he likes Eclipse, Blysa did not see it in quite the phenomenal terms of some Eclipse devotees. "When I look at Eclipse, I see an IDE," he told eADT, noting that whatever is said about tools integration it basically comes down to "two tools that need to communicate."
