Codethink Joins Eclipse Foundation to Drive Global Standards for Trustable Software

UK-based Codethink, a global leader in software engineering services, announced its strategic membership in the Eclipse Foundation and its Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) Working Group. The move marks a significant step in Codethink’s mission to advance the development of trustable software, the company says, systems designed to be auditable, transparent, and secure for critical industries and supply chains.

Headquartered in Manchester, UK, Codethink specializes in high-performance software projects for industries including automotive, finance, and IoT. The company has pioneered "trustable" software development, aiming to enhance transparency and reliability in software engineering.

As part of this collaboration, Codethink will contribute its expertise and intellectual property from its Trustable Software portfolio to the Eclipse Foundation’s open-source ecosystem. The initiative seeks to establish new industry standards for software transparency and reliability in areas like automotive, finance, and IoT.

"Codethink is honored to join the Eclipse Foundation and the Eclipse SDV Working Group as a Strategic Member," said Codethink Chairman Paul Sherwood, in a statement. "We believe trustable software is essential for the secure and reliable operation of modern digital systems. By working alongside industry leaders, we are paving the way for more transparent and reliable software solutions across the globe."

The Eclipse Foundation, home to more than 420 open-source projects, welcomed Codethink’s membership. Executive Director Mike Milinkovich noted that Codethink’s leadership in trustable software would bolster the foundation’s ongoing efforts. “Their contributions will further strengthen our collective efforts to ensure transparency, auditability, and trust in software systems,” Milinkovich said.

Codethink’s collaboration will also benefit from its partnership with exida, a global leader in certification for safety-critical systems. Jonathan Moore, Director of Advanced Systems at exida, emphasized the importance of Codethink’s trustable software model. "Codethink’s trustable model is a much-needed upgrade to the underlying principles of functional safety and cybersecurity," Moore said in a statement. "We look forward to collaborating on frameworks and standards that set new benchmarks for software certification and assurance."

Codethink’s partnership with the Eclipse Foundation comes at a time when demand for auditable and secure software is increasing across industries. The collaboration aims to establish robust frameworks that will drive innovation while addressing challenges in modern software engineering.

"Trustable software is the foundation of the future for critical systems," Sherwood said, emphasizing Codethink’s commitment to improving global software quality through open-source collaboration.

Codethink’s membership in the Eclipse Foundation underscores the growing momentum behind collaborative efforts to build secure, auditable software for the modern era.
