Dynatrace Brings Observability to Atlassian's Open DevOps Initiative

Software intelligence company Dynatrace and software development and collaboration tools provider Atlassian have expanded their strategic partnership around Atlassian's Open DevOps initiative, which combines that company's products with solutions from key partners to deliver "full lifecycle value," the companies said.

The Open DevOps platform starts with integrations among Atlassian's own Jira Software, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Opsgenie to provide "a development experience that makes a diverse toolchain feel like an all-in-one." The platform is actually built on Jira, which originated as a bug and issue tracker, but has evolved into a work management tool for different kinds of use cases, from requirements and test case management to agile software development.

Dynatrace uses artificial intelligence (AI) to provide application performance monitoring (APM), artificial intelligence for operations (AIOps), IT infrastructure monitoring, digital experience management (DEM), and digital business analytics capabilities. Dynatrace says it is offering six integrations with Atlassian to ensure shared DevOps customers can use the Dynatrace observability platform "to deliver innovation faster without sacrificing quality," the company says.

Atlassian is billing its new Open DevOps platform as a way to empower software teams "to work how they want, in the tools they want, without sacrificing coordination," Suzie Prince, head of the company's DevOps products group, said in a blog post. Although the default DevOps project is built around the four Atlassian products, teams will be able to swap in the tools they want, including GitLab or GitHub, Prince said.

For its part, Dynatrace is sharing its observability platform as one of those integrated tools, said Erin Jones, Technical Alliance Marketing Manager at Dynatrace.

"With this approach, developers, operations, and SRE teams can rely on a single source of truth, natively monitor, and evaluate Service Level Objectives (SLOs) in production and pre-production, and benefit from an enterprise grade control plane that can automatically orchestrate the delivery and roll-back of code across the DevOps pipeline," Jones said in a blog post. "In addition, Dynatrace’s Davis AI provides development teams with precise root-cause analysis with code-level detail. This enables teams to proactively resolve anomalies, often before they impact users, and provides AI-powered insights that improve release confidence.
