Another Cloud Service Automates Mobile App Security

Much as low-code tooling has exploded among enterprises needing more apps amid a dearth of skilled professional developers, a new niche appears to be forming: automated cloud security services for iOS and Android projects.

The service, called Trusted Software, was announced earlier this month by Irdeto, a digital platform security specialist.

Sporting a drag-and-drop interface just like many low-code tools, it lets developers submit a ready-to-go mobile app to the service to get automatically protected against hackers and cyberthreats.

"Unlike other solutions on the market, which typically require cybersecurity expertise to configure, build and apply proper protection, Trusted Software takes app-store-ready applications as a starting point," Irdeto announced at the recent Black Hat conference in Las Vegas. "Trusted Software then returns a protected application that is ready for posting to the app store, eliminating the need for the organization to spend time or resources securing mobile apps. The new service also prevents organizations from needing to develop or hire the necessary skillsets to ensure proper cybersecurity of mobile apps is obtained."

The announcement follows on last month's unveiling of a similar service from Verimatrix called ProtectMyApp.

"Facing time, budget and talent hurdles, ProtectMyApp handles the heavy lifting for developers that face the daunting threats we see every day in the press," Verimatrix said in a news release at the time. "Now, they simply upload their application, and receive it back protected. What previously required extensive expertise, time and effort, is now efficiently offered by an intelligent automated service that optimizes protection without compromising performance or user experience."

Neither company provided detailed information on how their respective services work, though Irdeto said it was optimized with machine learning functionality. Irdeto said Trusted Software uses a pay-as-you-go pricing model with automated Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) delivery.
