Apple Waives $99 Developer Program Fee for Some Organizations

One of the differences between developing for the Android mobile platform or Apple's iOS is the $99 Apple Developer Program membership fee for the latter, a distinction that's being loosened somewhat.
Apple announced last week that membership is now available at no cost for eligible organizations -- nonprofits, accredited educational institutions and U.S.-based government entities -- that will distribute only free apps on the App Store.
Should any organization belonging to one of these groups apply for a fee waiver and be accepted, and subsequently distribute a store-based paid app or an app featuring in-app purchasing, it will be responsible for the fee.
Furthermore, no waivers are available for members of the Apple Developer Enterprise Program, individuals or those running sole proprietorships or single-person businesses.
Full details of the new fee-waiver program are available here.
