Ivanti Expands Datacenter Security Suite

Ivanti, the newly re-christened company formed by the merger of LANDesk and Heat Software, unveiled an expanded suite of solutions for datacenter and hybrid cloud security at the recent RSA conference. The new product suite combines technologies from the two companies and several acquisitions to provide application and device control for servers, security analysis and a range of server-based patching capabilities.

The new product suite pulls together solutions from these two companies, as well as technologies from four acquired companies: Shavlik, AppSense, Lumension and Xtraction. The result is a "mitigation fabric" for server and hybrid cloud security that expands the company's security coverage from the endpoint to the datacenter, the company said in a statement.

This first release of the Ivanti product suite includes:

• Ivanti Application Control for Windows Servers, which is based on AppSense user virtualization technology, is designed to prevent the execution of unauthorized applications and malware on servers through a Trusted Ownership model.
• A new device-control-for-servers capability, which aims to provide control of key vulnerabilities around USB access to systems. It also ensures that servers can be granularly locked down and protected from the accidental or purposeful exfiltration of server data in compliance with IT governance policies, the company said.
• Ivanti Patch for Windows Servers, which is based on Shavlik's agentless-patching technology, provides datacenters with a single automated solution that spans physical and virtual servers.
• A new combined patch management product for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Server based on LANDesk and Lumension technologies, provides "complete server operating system patch coverage," the company said, as well as deeper capabilities for securing datacenters.
• By combining what the company called "the two largest patch catalogs on the market," Ivanti has effectively created the industry's largest third-party content catalog, with capabilities to integrate deeply into physical, virtual, and hybrid cloud infrastructure.
• Business intelligence based on Xtraction technologies, which LANDesk acquired in 2015, provides actionable insights via timely, sharable IT dashboards and analytics.

Duane Newman, Ivanti's vice president of product management, described the company's "defense-in-depth" strategy as a framework for focusing on the prevention, detection and remediation of security threats "regardless of where they may penetrate the IT landscape."

"Our expanded suite of datacenter security solutions further extends our protection reach across today's enterprise, from desktops to servers, so that customers can have confidence that their environment is secure," Newman said in a statement.

Clearlake Capital Group, a California-based private equity firm, acquired patch management specialist LANDesk earlier this year and announced plans to combine it with Heat, an IT service management and endpoint management provider.
