Webroot Launches Web Security SaaS Solution

Webroot this week launched its new Webroot Web Security Software as a Service (SaaS) product, a hosted online threat protection solution for SMB, consumer, and enterprise markets.

According to a Webroot press release, Web Security SaaS is an "in the cloud" product designed to protect an organization's mobile and on-site users against Web-borne threats, as well as to enforce "appropriate" Internet surfing habits among employees.

Once the solution is installed, the entirety of an organization's Web traffic gets routed to and scanned by Webroot's data centers. Web Security SaaS checks Web requests for spyware, viruses, and other threats, as well as for "unwanted content."

It also features real-time reports, URL filtering, feature access control and "granular user and group controls" for monitoring employee downloading habits.

"The Internet and remote network access are essential to employee productivity yet 85 percent of all malware infections now come from the Web and only 15 percent of businesses are adequately secured against malware threats and employee misuse," said Webroot COO Mike Irwin an a prepared statement. "Filtering and scanning Internet traffic in the cloud ensures businesses receive more effective protection that is easier to manage than appliances and server-based software solutions."

In conjunction with the Web Security SaaS launch, Webroot also announced an update to its Webroot E-Mail Security SaaS product, which now features expanded e-mail content enforcement capabilities. Users can apply policies to images, text and attachments on inbound and outbound e-mails, and quarantine suspected e-mails before transmitting them.

E-Mail Security SaaS also features more regulatory compliance capabilities that would help companies ensure they comply with HIPAA, PCI and, other standards.
