Kalido Offers Free Business Modeling Software

Kalido has announced that the design component of its Kalido Business Information Modeler can be freely downloaded. Business modeling can reduce implementation times for, and improve the success of, business intelligence (BI) programs.
In an effort to further business modeling best practices, Kalido has created an online community that advances business model sharing and collaboration. Other resources (white papers, podcasts and Webinars) explain business modeling and how to use the new tool.
A business model is a conceptual layout of a business. It defines the core business entities (for example, customers, products, time periods and measures) and how they interrelate. The model includes the business rules binding the elements together.
Kalido explains that business modeling "represents a significant advance over traditional data modeling approaches. Unlike data modeling, business models can be easily understood by both business and IT leaders, providing a common ground on which to collaborate."
Business models also assume that concepts do change, and a single business model can be a unifying force among data models needed to design staging areas, data warehouses, and data marts.

At its launch, the online community has been populated with common models, including many that detail profitability, time, contracts, geography, and other dimensions and types.
