Minnesota Event To Support Open Source

Open source software is the subject of a forum series, starting on March 23, at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College.

The series aims to help senior-level executives and IS leaders in the Twin Cities metro area develop a strategy for deploying open source software in the enterprise.

"Companies that wish to use open source code must have a clear understanding of the applicable business and legal principles to make an informed decision and guard against potential risks," stated Bruce Lindberg, executive director of the Center for Strategic Information Technology and Security, which is sponsoring the event.

The Center is a coalition of local colleges, as well as Metropolitan State University.

An advocacy group, the Open Source Technology Alliance, also helped to develop the event, which is known as TAOSE (Trusted Adoption of Open Source for the Enterprise).

The series includes forums on "Open Source Stack & Support" (March 23), "Operating Systems" (April 27), "Open Source Databases" (May 18), and "Open Source Middleware" (June 22).
