Compuware targets development, IT service with new offerings

Compuware has released upgrades of two products: one to assist Java developers and the other designed to improve servicing of Java applications at lower cost.

The Detroit-based vendor released OptimalJ 3.3, the latest version of its enterprise development solution. New features extend OptimalJ’s automation capabilities to speed development, simplify legacy reuse through service-enablement and ease development team collaboration, the company announced.

Compuware says its implementation of Model-Driven Architecture (MDA) enables Java development teams to more quickly deliver service-oriented applications. Agile development teams use OptimalJ to more rapidly build enterprise-grade applications, integrate with legacy and packaged applications and deploy to any major Java platform, the company said in a statement.

OptimalJ 3.3 is an answer to a chief IT problem today: turning out applications faster and cheaper. In an August report, "Why Enterprise Application Development Is So Hard--And How It Must Get Easier," Forrester Research cited the challenges of enterprise application development. "Many IT organizations are struggling to meet the technology challenges" because they’re dealing with a rise in business complexity, Forrester said. Enterprise application development "is not just harder; it is harder than it ought to be."

Compuware also unveiled its Vantage Analyzer for J2EE, an extension to its Vantage service management software that helps IT deliver higher levels of service to their business at lower cost. Specifically, customers running enterprise Java applications can now use Vantage to more quickly identify and isolate performance and availability problems.

The new capabilities extend Compuware’s application service management and specifically enhance Vantage’s support for enterprise Java applications with end-to-end analysis capabilities, allowing enterprises to deliver excellent transaction-centric service, according to the company statement.
