McNealy touts AMD-Sun pact
Sun Microsystems' CEO Scott McNealy broke some big news in his Comdex
keynote audience yesterday -- his firm has finally looked outside for processors
to run its biggest machines. McNealy disclosed that Sun has teamed up with Advanced
Micro Devices (AMD) to develop 64-bit servers based on AMD's Opteron processors.

into Java Desktop System
Scott McNealy, CEO of Sun Microsystems, did have one surprising (read:
mostly unleaked announcement to deliver with his keynote: Sun has agreed to
work with the China Standard Software Co. Ltd. to develop desktop computers
based on Sun's Linux-based Java Desktop System. This deal could lead to the
installation of the software on hundreds of millions of computers in the People's
Republic of China, McNealy said. Read more

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates focused his opening keynote at this year's Comdex
on ''seamless computing,'' his designation for the next phase in the evolution
