AtScale Inc. announced what it claims to be the industry's first "BI on Hadoop" accelerator to work with Big Data analytics products from Tableau Software Inc., which specializes in data visualization.
As part of a special program for Tableau users, the AtScale BI on Hadoop solution will integrate with Tableau Server and include support for Tableau Desktop. Tableau Server is an online and mobile BI product that, in conjunction with Tableau Desktop, lets developers create live, interactive dashboards that can be displayed in browsers -- such as company portals -- or on mobile devices.
AtScale said this integration provides speedy and secure analytics of data without having to move that data or rely on client or agent downloads, letting developers get started with Hadoop queries immediately without worrying about local setup and installation. "This solution enables business users to run analytics on Hadoop at 100x the performance, with enterprise-grade security and without requiring IT departments to move, transform or sample data to make it available for analysis," the company said in a statement yesterday.
The San Mateo, Calif., company also said developers can deploy its offering in a contained rapid prototype environment that supports all Hadoop distributions.
In wedding the $20 billion BI market with the $50 billion Big Data market, AtScale said its accelerator fulfills a major need, the first such product to bridge those two industry segments.
"Our common vision is to provide business users with an enterprise-grade experience on Hadoop," said Dave Mariani, AtScale CEO and founder. "Tableau's enterprise customers have already experienced the benefits of our approach and with this new offer, any business user can unleash Tableau on Hadoop in minutes and query billions of rows at top speed."
AtScale is demonstrating its new accelerator at this week's Tableau Partner Summit.
"Tableau helps people see and understand data," said Tableau exec Michael Hoff. "Customers who have deployed AtScale have experienced tremendous performance improvements and like the solution's simplicity and tight integration with Tableau. We look forward to working with AtScale to bring this solution to market with a special program for our customers. Tableau customers and partners should look at this new offer as an 'all-in-one' solution which will help meet their BI on Hadoop needs."
