Zend Takes PHP Studio to Eclipse

Earlier this month Cupertino, Calif.-based Zend Technologies, creators and distributors of PHP technologies, announced an Eclipse version of its PHP integrated development environment Zend Studio.

According to the company, the Zend Studio for Eclipse will allow PHP developers end-to-end control of their application's lifecycle within Eclipse.

"In Zend Studio for Eclipse we enhance Eclipse PDT by delivering key capabilities for commercial PHP development, such as refactoring, unit testing, profiling and integration with Zend Framework," said Andi Gutmans, co-CTO and co-founder of Zend Technologies, in a released statement.

"An important goal of the Eclipse Foundation is to support commercial products built on the Eclipse infrastructure, and this is the newest offering that helps bring the millions of PHP programmers into the Eclipse community," commented Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation, in the same statement. "We are happy see Zend commercialize Eclipse PDT with their Zend Studio for Eclipse product."

A Zend Studio for Eclipse beta, code named "Neon," is currently available free for download here.

The live version of the product will be released in "early 2008," the company said. Pricing has not yet been announced, but those who already own Zend Studio Professional will receive the Eclipse version free.
