INPRISE PREVIEWS SOFTWARE PRODUCTS TO SUPPORT ENTERPRISE APPLICATIONS
Inprise Corporation has announced the beta release of the next version of its Inprise Application Server, as well as the latest releases of AppCenter, its distributed application management solution, and VisiBroker, its Object Request Broker (ORB). Based on open industry standards, the three new software products are expected to deliver the ideal foundation for customers to expand their presence on the Web and provide them with the technology needed to support enterprise-strength Internet business applications.
The Inprise Application Server is the first application server to combine the benefits of EJB and CORBA; it also provides comprehensive support for the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE). Inprise AppCenter is the first management solution designed specifically to manage distributed applications, allowing customers to manage from the application level rather than from the hardware perspective. It provides a software-based centralized management and control for distributed applications, running on multiple hardware and software platforms across multiple locations. This new version of Inprise AppCenter will fully support the management of EJB applications and will be optimized for the Inprise Application Server. Inprise's VisiBroker is an ORB designed to facilitate the development and deployment of distributed enterprise applications based on industry standards that are scalable, flexible, and easily maintained.

CODE GENERATOR
Codagen Technologies announces Gen-it for Java—the first offering in an industry-unique family of code generators that enable generation-time control and customization in the development of enterprise applications. The company's patent-pending technology uses generation instructions—known as Generation Templates, which enable developers to automatically generate operations in existing or derived components containing repetitive and 'nearly repetitive' code, for integrating frameworks with components developed using today's modeling tools and programming languages. Gen-it for Java is architected to work with the industry's leading UML modeling tools. Generated code produced by Gen-it for Java can be automatically integrated into VisualAge for Java. This improves quality and time-efficiency by automatically consolidating the Java code into the repository environment for the development team. For customers who use other Java integrated development environments (IDEs), the generated code will be stored in the conventional Java text-based system.

TOGETHER/J DELIVERS MODELS, CODE, AND DOC
TogetherSoft (formerly Object International) officially released Together/J (TJ) 3, delivering a host of new features for visual UML development across the enterprise. TJ delivers simultaneous round-trip engineering, so that models built by modelers are actually used by developers and remain up-to-date throughout the project. It also delivers simultaneous round-trip engineering of EJBs (including EJBs not generated by TJ itself). TJ includes a leading multi-user multi-platform Web-enabled version control system and can also auto-integrate with most leading version-control systems on the Windows platform. TJ also automatically generates a portfolio of always-up-to-date documentation—including "Javadoc2" multiframe HTML doc, multi-platform Rich Text Format (RTF) reports (customizable in Together/Enterprise), and both government-standard and corporate-standard doc using Java as the scripting language—all aimed at improving communication throughout an organization.
A pure Java application, TJ naturally runs on NT, 98/95, Solaris, and Linux.

CREATING GRAPHICAL MODELS OF SYSTEMS
INFOLOGISTIK announced miniGRADE, based on the Unified Modeling Language (UML). miniGRADE is a useful tool for C++ and Java developers who use Rational Rose class diagrams, but who find that Rose does not support the creation of extremely large diagrams. Diagrams can be created in miniGRADE, then exported to Rose. miniGRADE's data dictionary functions as a detailed table of contents of the model, allowing for easy navigation in very large models.
