Enterprise Mobility Firm Offers 'Zero Management' Device Security

Enterprise mobility specialist Appdome is out with a new service that secures devices in bring-your-own-device (BYOD) shops without the need to install a management profile.

The Redwood City, Calif., company, known for its no-code mobile integration and solutions platform, said its new Zero Management Mobility service can secure proprietary internal or third-party apps.

That's done through a combination of security measures, including:

  • Encryption
  • Obfuscation
  • App shielding
  • VPN access (SDK service)
  • Single sign-on (SSO) (SDK service)

"Mobile apps can then be deployed via several mechanisms with Zero Management Mobility: Public App Store, Invitation Only and Private Distribution," Appdome said in a news release. "Public App Store distribution is increasing in popularity with enterprise customers, as it gives employees the consumer-like mobile experiences they have come to expect."

The Appdome solutions backing the service include:

  • Appdome TOTALData Encryption for mobile data protection
  • Appdome WorkTRUST for enterprise access and readiness
  • Appdome SSO+ for enterprise authentication
  • Appdome TOTALCode Obfuscation for mobile code obfuscation
  • Appdome ONEShield for app shielding and hardening

The company said the zero management service was created in response to customer feedback, specifically the question: "How do we securely get mobile apps to all of our employees, rather than just the subset of employees on an MDM [mobile device management], EMM [enterprise mobility management] or MAM [mobile application management] system?"

"Zero Management Mobility allows developers to build custom apps by integrating mobile security, enterprise authentication, and enterprise access and readiness services to any Android or iOS app," the company said in a blog post. "When building these custom apps on Appdome, these technologies work together to provide a modular, in-app feature set -- no profile or enrollment required."
