AI Dev Watch 3/1: Google's Free Machine Learning Course, Microsoft Genomics for Azure, Intel Program for Bringing AI IoT Products to Market, More

Here's just some of the latest artificial intelligence-related development news out there (plus a few bonus links):

  • Google this week launched the Machine Learning Crash Course, a free course for developers that it touts as a "fast-paced, practical introduction to machine learning." The course consists of approximately 15 hours of instruction, including 40 exercises, 25 lessons, lectures from Google researchers and more. A full outline can be seen here.
  • Also this week Microsoft announced the general availability of Microsoft Genomics on Microsoft Azure, as part of a larger initiative aimed at bringing the power of AI and the cloud to healthcare. Other aspects of the initiative include the launch of AI Network for Healthcare (formerly AI Network for Eyecare) and new Huddle Solution Templates for Office 365 for developers. Microsoft also recently released a new Face API and improved Bing search capabilities as part of its ever-expanding AI improvements.
  • Intel has announced a new way to help developers bring their AI products to market: Intel AI: In Production. According to a release about the service, once developers create a new AI product, they can use Intel AI: In Production to work with pre-selected manufacturing partners (the first one is AAEON Technologies) to produce their IoT and other devices with AI capabilities that run on Intel Movidius VPUs.
  • This is (in my opinon, at least) a really good article from Quanta magazine: "Why Self-Taught Artificial Intelligence Has Trouble with the Real World."
