Adobe last week announced its intention to release Flex Builder 2 free for students and faculty at educational institutions.
Flex Builder, which retails for $499, is an integrated development environment (IDE) for the Flex Framework, which powers cross-platform rich Web applications.
Built on the Eclipse IDE, Flex Builder 2 provides a suite of tools and libraries for developing Flex apps and extending applications built using AJAX. The IDE includes:
- Editors for MXML, ActionScript and CSS;
- An incremental compiler; and
- Interactive debugging features and design elements, among other features.
Flex Builder 2 will be available for free to educators and students, beginning in November. It supports Mac OS X and Windows environments.
