Securent, a provider of application entitlement management solutions, has joined efforts with
OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards) to advance open standards in access control policy and security across enterprise applications.
In particular, Securent plans to adopt the XACML (eXtensible Access Control Markup Language) standard supported by OASIS, an international nonprofit group focusing on technical solutions for e-business.
"Securent's decision to implement XACML 2.0 in its Entitlement Management Solution is indicative of the value this standard is capable of delivering to real-world enterprise customers," stated James Bryce Clark, director of standards development at OASIS. "We applaud enterprises that select open standards-based solutions over proprietary alternatives."
Securent's Entitlement Management Solution is used to manage access control policies across various applications and IT environments in an enterprise. It's used to improve security and compliance with regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, and others.
The solution has been XACML compliant from the beginning, according to Rajiv Gupta, Securent's CEO.
Securent's participation in the XACML OASIS standard will help to make it stronger, and may make it less likely that vendors will lock in a proprietary solution at the access control policy level.
