Got a Job Interview? Don’t Forget to Get Dressed

The Internet abounds with job sites offering interview tips – usually in the form of 10 or so bullet-points outlining the most obvious “advice” imaginable: “Be presentable”, “Research the subject you’re interviewing for”, “Visit the employer’s website first”, “Be polite”, that sort of thing.

But this news article offers perhaps the best snippet of advice yet: Get dressed.

Okay fair’s fair, I’m doubtless taking the quote out of context. But the overall thrust of the article – that you’ll find it difficult to land a job via email – seems to be stretching the concept of “news” to breaking point.

It’s a fair comment, though, that employers prefer to see job candidates face-to-face, partly because of the number of candidates who embellish their CVs or even lie outright (1 in 4 according to this report).

Kinda reminds me of this spoof news piece (link-back-to-my-own-website alert): 60 Years of EJB Experience.
