New Zend Core for IBM debuts free DB2 Express Data Server

Zend Technologies announced the general availability of an updated Zend Core for IBM, featuring a free DB2 Express Data Server and the Cloudscape database for embedded applications. This version offers a free DB2 Express Data Server without license charges, database size restrictions or user limitations. Earlier releases of Zend Core for IBM already supported Linux and AIX. This update adds support for Windows, allowing many additional developers to rely on a certified and easily installable PHP environment.

"We are seeing strong interest from developers in the PHP community to use DB2 data servers for their Web applications, and DB2 Express provides a powerful on-ramp for PHP developers to help their companies leverage information in ways other databases cannot," says Bob Picciano, VP of data servers for IBM. "Zend Core for IBM, with its freely packaged DB2 Express data server, tight integration with PHP and professional support options delivered by Zend and IBM, is an important milestone in our efforts to meet this demand."

Zend Core for IBM delivers a fully tested and supported environment that enables developers to get up and running in minutes with Zend's supported PHP with an IBM infrastructure. Zend provides support for Zend Core for IBM via the Zend Network, a comprehensive service and support system delivering enterprise-quality updates and support to PHP developers.

All Zend Core for IBM versions are available for free download from the company's Web site.
