Red Oak Opens Legacy Composer to Java Development

Red Oak Software today introduced an Eclipse-based version of its Legacy Composer to help developers integrate legacy applications across enterprises and eventually integrate these apps into service-oriented architectures.

Legacy Composer is an application integration tool built entirely on the open-source Java development environment. Developers can use it to build, deploy and maintain access to their legacy systems and data by automatically converting them into reusable components and services, such as Enterprise Java Beans, Java beans and Web services. Legacy apps include terminal-based software by IBM, Unisys and Tandem. With the new tool, these components and services can be converted and integrated into any J2EE application, deployed into any J2EE app server, integrated into any portal and incorporated into any composite application.

The tool also features the Legacy Composer Workbench, which includes a visual recorder and process editors that automate design, testing and deployment of Legacy Business Objects. The Workbench is implemented as an Eclipse plug-in, and features the Eclipse software development kit for developers to access automated deployment wizards for Web services, J2EE projects, Java projects and servlets. Other features of the Eclipse SDK include editors, builders, debuggers, code merging and re-factoring tools.

Red Oak also supports IBM Rational Studio, Borland Software JBuilder and Sun Microsystems NetBeans IDEs.

All components of Legacy Composer are available now. Pricing for the Legacy Composer Development Server bundles start at $30,000, and the production server bundles start at $45,000.
