Altova (booth 401) recently introduced UModel 2005, a new UML 2.0 modeling tool that, in addition to its diagramming capability, generates Java code and provides reverse engineering and round-tripping functionality. UModel 2005 provides context-sensitive entry helpers, color-coding, cascading styles, customizable design elements, multiple layout views, and unlimited undo/redo. Altova also provides XML development tools, including XMLSpy and MapForce. XMLSpy is an XML development environment for modeling, editing, debugging, and transforming XML technologies and automatically generates runtime code in multiple programming languages. MapForce is an XML database, flat file, and EDI data mapping tool for advanced integration projects that converts data on the fly and auto-generates custom data conversion code in XSLT, XQuery, Java, C++, and C#.

Borland is announcing a major upgrade to its Together modeling suite for the Eclipse platform, Together for Eclipse 2006, which will include several significant UML-centric feature enhancements to advance model-driven architecture design. In addition, the upgrade will include capabilities for business process modeling (BPM). Openmake replaces difficult-to-manage scripts with object-type oriented, Perl-based, reusable build control files that allow developers to quickly and easily craft a customized build framework without having to write custom scripts or build classes. Developers begin by choosing from an extensive list of predefined build types, with the option of modifying the templates as desired.
