Books: Integrate Large-Scale Apps Successfully

Enterprise Application Integration Using .NET shows you how to overcome the issues and obstacles involved in integrating enterprise-scale applications successfully.

Many developers undoubtedly wish they'd read Enterprise Application Integration Using .NET before they tackled that huge software project. This book shows you how to overcome the issues and obstacles involved in integrating enterprise-scale applications successfully.

Every system integrator should read at least the first part of this book, which talks about the human side of software integration. It includes sections on getting management's buy-in, preventing trouble, and requirements analysis. This portion of the book might be small, but you'd be wise not to skip it. It contains information you'd want your management to read before you start a project.

The second half of the book describes the process of integration with a .NET focus. The author, Butch Clark, bases all his examples on a fictitious company to drive home points. The examples are in C# and easy to follow. He assumes a certain amount of knowledge of Visual Studio .NET and C#.

Enterprise Application Integration Using .NET is a must-read if your company is planning on doing a large-scale integration. From personal experience, I have found a lot of what the author says to be extremely accurate, especially on the management side of integrating applications. I definitely recommend that you have this book on the community bookshelf in your office.
