edition of the bi-annual LinuxWorld conference opens this week in San
Francisco. More than 190
exhibitors are showcasing their wares this year -- 55
more than last year, according to Warwick Davies, group VP at show
organizer IDG World Expo -- and attendance is expected
to match last year's numbers of between 10,000 and
11,000. |

IBM Rational lifted the lid on improved developer technologies, including
a new diagram navigator for Rose; support for UML 2.0 capabilities, including
diagram sequencing, client remoting and management for ClearCase; as well

At JavaOne: Project Kitty Hawk kicks off Sun SOA strategy
Sun Microsystems unveiled its plans
to support SOAs in its Java Enterprise System server software suite and Java
Studio programming tools at the JavaOne conference. Enhancements to these
products under 'Project Kitty Hawk' will make it easier for
developers to write 'a new breed of enterprise software' around
Java-based Web services, company officials said.Read

Architecture (SOA) strategy, which is based on BEA's vision of a 'fluid
enterprise' enabled by a set of products and services collectively dubbed

At Gartner Summit: When BPEL meets Java
Many of Gartner's predictions of Web services are pretty far out in time, some
relating to technology we may not see until 2014. But one trend, the mapping
of Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) to programming languages, most
notably Java, is happening now. 'Expect BPEL mappings to specific language
to happen rapidly throughout 2004 and 2005,' Daryl Plummer, sector general
manager at Gartner, told attendees at Gartner's Application Integration and
