Pervasive to buy Data Junction for $51.7M

Embedded database pioneer Pervasive Software Inc. this week signed a definitive agreement to acquire privately held XML and data integration specialist Data Junction Corp. in a mixed stock-and-cash deal valued at about $51.7 million. Both companies are located in Austin, Texas.
"We're looking at building a significant data management infrastructure company, not just being about our database," said David Sikora, Pervasive CEO. "This just makes all the sense in the world for us strategically." Sikora said he expects the transaction to close in October or November. He said his company intends to operate both a database division and an integration division.
In recent years, said Mike Hoskins, Data Junction president, his firm has moved from being a "plain data integration and ETL-type vendor" to become a player in the emerging real-time application integration space.
"The board looked around and realized that it was at a crossroads, and we realized that we needed to make a bold move," he said, adding that becoming part of a public company added certain credibility in the view of many software buyers.
