At CA World: AllFusion integrates platforms

Computer Associates (CA) made new moves at CA World in Las Vegas to bring its diverse change and configuration management offerings into greater harmony. The company unveiled an Enterprise Workbench product that integrates AllFusion Endevor Change Manager and AllFusion Harvest Change Manager.

"Enterprise workbench is an umbrella, a single point of control for all platforms," said Greg Clancy, business manager, marketing at Computer Associates (www.ca.com).

This will help to meet the needs of people that are doing enterprise change management across many platforms," noted Clancy.

Extensions to the AllFusion line are intended to improve software configuration tasks across development environments and methodologies. This is an important step for CA. Change management is growing as a discipline important to overall application life-cycle management. But steps to bring together CA's diverse solutions have been at times halting since the company purchased Platinum Technology (seller of CCC Harvest and other software) in 1999.

In an interview with Application Development Trends, CA's Clancy suggested that further integration of change management software suites is in store, this time with operational software such as CA Unicenter.

"We are looking to extend automation to have control over more pieces of a much wider application life cycle," said Clancy. "True application life-cycle management means coordination of application development and operations, not just application development. Once you introduce automation, you can reduce costs and reduce the risk of things going wrong in your application development process."
