[MARCH 18, 2003/ADT'S PROGRAMMERS REPORT] - Dev toolmaker Metrowerks is teaming with mobile handset maker Nokia
Corp. to offer an all-in-one developer kit for the Series 60 mobile
phone platform. Unveiled at the Game Developers Conference, held
recently in San Jose, Calif., the Series 60 SDK for the Symbian OS
gives users of CodeWarrior a way to build applications for this mobile
smartphone platform for the first time.
Developed by Austin, Texas-based Metrowerks and Forum Nokia, the
company's global developer program, the new SDK comes bundled in
Metrowerks' CodeWarrior Wireless Development Kit for Symbian OS, Nokia
3650 Edition, along with the CodeWarrior Development Studio for Symbian
OS v2, Personal Edition. The bundle also comes with a commercial-release
version of Nokia's Series 60 mobile device, the Nokia 3650 tri-band
phone.
Running on top of the Symbian OS, an operating system for advanced,
data-enabled mobile phones, Series 60 is a multimedia platform that
supports open and common key technologies, such as MMS, Java,
WAP/XHTML and C++ / Symbian OS (native).
