Trend Micro's AWS Integration Adds Security to DevOps Toolbox

Trend Micro announced that it has integrated its Cloud One security services platform natively with two Amazon Web Services (AWS) offerings: Control Tower and Systems Manager Distributor. With these new integrations, the company aims to provide security, cloud, and DevOps teams that are leveraging AWS with new automated security enforcement capabilities earlier in the account and resource provisioning process.

Trend Micro is an Advanced Technology Partner in the AWS Partner Network (APN), and the two companies and have been collaborating since 2012 on a range of integrations.

"We understand that security teams don't always have complete control or visibility into how cloud instances are being spun up, configured and used across the company," said Sanjay Mehta, senior vice president of business development and alliances for Trend Micro, in a statement. "Listening to and understanding customer needs and feedback drives our innovations and collaboration with AWS."

Having the company's solutions plug in natively with AWS offerings like Control Tower and Systems Manager Distributor adds visibility and automates security for Trend Micro's customers, Mehta said.

Control Tower is an AWS native service that provides a pre-defined set of blueprints and guardrails to help customers implement a "landing zone" for new AWS accounts. The service is designed to provide an easy, self-service setup experience and an interactive user interface for ongoing governance with guardrails, the company says.

AWS  Systems Manager Distributor is a feature in AWS Systems Manager. It's used for securely storing and distributing software packages, such as software agents, in AWS accounts. The Distributor feature integrates with existing Systems Manager features to simplify and scale the package distribution, installation, and update process, the company says.

Industry analysts at IDC identified Trend Micro as "the dominant leader in Software-Defined Compute (SDC) workload protection" in the market share report, "Worldwide Hybrid Cloud Workload Security Market Shares, 2019: Vendor Growth Comes in All Shapes and Sizes." The company accounts for 29.5% of the worldwide hybrid cloud workload security market share, the analysts reported.

"Trend Micro's continuing investment in integrations with native AWS capabilities… reduces onboarding and management friction while adopting an enhanced security posture, said Siva Padisetty, GM and AWS Systems Manager, in a statement.

Trend Micro's Cloud One provides an embedded security framework for Web applications and containerized Web apps, including Kubernetes and severless functions, to protect microservices apps in traditional, cloud, or Kubernetes environments. Through this collaboration, Cloud One offers broad platform support and API integration to protect its customers AWS infrastructure, whether building with Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances, AWS Lambda, AWS Fargate, containers, Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), or Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) networking.
