Google Announces Cloud SQL for Microsoft SQL Server

Earlier this week the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) team announced the alpha release of Cloud SQL for Microsoft SQL Server.

According to Google, the goal with Cloud SQL for Microsoft SQL Server is to make it easier for enterprises to work "as expected" with their on-premises cloud projects, letting them easily bring SQL Server projects into their Google cloud infrastructure.

"For enterprises, this option means they can now experience fully managed SQL Server with built-in high availability and backup capability," the company said in its announcement of the release. "You can lift and shift SQL Server workloads without changing apps, then use the data from these apps with other GCP services like BigQuery and AI tools to create more intelligent applications."

Interested enterprises can request access to the Alpha release here.

Cloud SQL is already available for MySQL and PostgreSQL. Pricing is available here.
