Compuware Partners with CollabNet VersionOne for Mainframe DevOps

Compuware took another step on its mission to bring DevOps to the mainframe, partnering with CollabNet VersionOne.

The companies announced at the DevOps Enterprise Summit in Las Vegas the integration of Compuware's ISPW -- automating source code management and deployment -- and CollabNet VersionOne's Continuum, which provides a visual interface in its continuous delivery platform that "tracks, automates and orchestrates software value streams across the DevOps lifecycle."

While the perception of mainframe computing may have faded in the face of more recent developments, Compuware has been on a years-long mission to innovate in the space and modernize the platform with "mainframe renaissance" and "DevOps-on-the-mainframe" initiatives.

"We are on a quest to remake the mainframe into a first-class citizen in an increasingly Agile and DevOps world," Compuware CEO told ADT last year.

This week's ISPW/Continuum integration is yet another step.

"The initial integration will enable Application Development and Delivery managers to view and control the status of user stories moving through the mainframe software development pipeline from the same Continuum dashboard as they use to manage those pipelines across other platforms," the companies said in a statement yesterday (Oct. 23). "This dashboard enables managers to quickly identify which stories are progressing on schedule, which have been delayed by defects, and which contain trailing commits.

"Large enterprises are relying increasingly on their core mainframe systems of record as essential back-end support for critical mobile and web front-end customer engagement. They must therefore orchestrate the delivery of new software across all platforms at the same speed and frequency to deliver value to customers."
