TestArchitect Makes Test Automation Simple for Oracle Applications

LogiGear today announced that its flagship test automation solution, TestArchitect, now integrates with, and provides native support for, Oracle E-Business Suite applications and Oracle’s JD Edwards.

TestArchitect is a functional test automation tool for Oracle applications, such as Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle’s JD Edwards, and Oracle Database. Among other new capabilities, this release provides new native automation support for Oracle Applications for web-based and Java-based GUI object recognition.

“LogiGear’s partnership with Oracle will enable Oracle implementers, developers, support specialists, and integrators to have a turnkey method to test end-to-end delivery of Oracle implementations, upgrades, and cloud migrations,” the company said in a statement.

The LogiGear product is based on what the company calls Action-Based Testing (ABT), which provides a framework for organizing test design, automation, and execution around key words. Keywords, which are called actions in this methodology, are the tasks executed during a test. Instead of automating an entire test as one long script, the ABT approach assembles tests using individual actions. The idea is to provide non-technical test engineers and business analysts with a way to define their tests as a series of these automated actions.

Consequently, non-technical test engineers or “business testers” can use the tool to create modular and reusable tests with minimal programming support. Also, the product comes with a library of more than 400 pre-programmed and reusable actions for test cases, which the company says eliminates weeks of coding.

LogiGear’s TestArchitect was created with the test developer in mind, the company says. While other tools focus on test automation as a programming task, paying less attention to the role that testers play in building up effective, efficient and maintainable automated tests, LogiGear took this modular approach, which “embeds a method and workflow that enables team members to organize tests well, give them a clear scope, and keep them at the level of abstraction to meet the scope, the company said, and the keyword-driven actions help all team members and stakeholders, regardless of background, to understand and communicate about the tests.”

This release comes with several other new features, including:

• Support for Oracle Forms packaged app, Web app, web services, database, and PDF testing
• The 400+ built-in actions come with smart functionalities and an Intuitive Test IDE for building modular and reusable test assets
• Parallel test execution and easy-to-analyze test reports with automatic screenshot recording
• Variation Handling: One set of tests can run on all platforms and on all versions/flavors of an application, rather than having to create slightly-different tests for each situation
• Data-driven testing, multi-user testing, distributed testing and Test Management, Reporting & Dashboard
• Extended automation capabilities using C#, Java & Python
• Integrations with Selenium WebDriver, MS Visual Studio/TFS/Test Manager, Quality Center, Jira, Zephyr, and Jenkins
