Big Data specialist MapR Technologies has added support for the Amazon Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes (Amazon EKS) to its flagship data platform.
Amazon EKS just became generally available last week. In launching the Kubernetes fully managed service, AWS is offering a competitive offering to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) on the Microsoft Azure cloud and the Kubernetes Engine on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP). All those cloud services speak to the increasing popularity of the open source Kubernetes container orchestration technology.
Further exemplifyhing that popularity, MapR is joining a host of other companies that have quickly jumped on the Amazon EKS bandwagon, including HashiCorp, Alcide, GoDaddy, Verizon and more.
Amazon EKS helps organizations with the deployment, management and scaling of containerized applications using the container orchestration technology of Kubernetes on the AWS cloud.
AWS says its managed service is suitable for use cases for microservices, hybrid container deployments, batch processing, application migration and more.
The support for Amazon EKS on the MapR Data Platform brings Big Data analytics into the field.
"MapR previously announced persistent storage for containers to enable the deployment of stateful containerized applications," the company said in an announcement today (June 14). "With Amazon EKS, MapR makes it easy for organizations to adopt and manage their data seamlessly on-premises and on Amazon Web Services (AWS), ensure end-to-end security, and protect containerized applications with advanced replication, snapshots, and mirrors."
MapR AWS users will be able to delete, create and move containers around while retaining the ability to access the data no matter where compute processes are running, the company said. Furthermore, data is distributed across cloud instances, availability zones, on-premises and edge resources without impact on container portability.
MapR has several offerings in the AWS Marketplace.
