New Relic Extending APM to Mobile

New Relic Inc. is making its software analytics platform available to mobile app developers via a new, embeddable SDK. New Relic Insights, which collects, stores and presents real-time app performance data from the back-end Web app environment, will soon be able capture mobile app performance data, app crashes and user engagement data.
The company is launching the mobile service in a closed beta (existing customers), and expects to make it generally available later this year.
Essentially, New Relic is making the existing capabilities of its Insight platform available to mobile developers, explained Al Sargent, New Relic's senior director of product marketing.
"All the data is captured using a single software development kit," Sargent told ADTmag. "Developers don't have to manage a whole zoo of SDKs. They don't have to capture all that data by calling separate APIs for every class of data being captured. They can focus on building features. And the reduced dependencies on multiple SDKs make for greater app stability and easier troubleshooting. This is the next step on our journey to deliver on our software analytics vision."
The real-time data collected by the mobile SDKs will be granular, Sargent said, which will enable fine-grained analysis by user group, mobile carrier and network response time.
New Relic released the first version of its Insights real-time analytics platform last July. Lew Cirne, who has been credited with creating the Application Performance Management (APM) market, founded the San Francisco-based company in 2008.
New Relic customers who are interested in joining the beta program can sign up online.
