Software AG Releases Mainframe Modernization Suite

Enterprise solution provider Software AG announced its webMethods Application Modernization Suite -- software designed to bring service-oriented architecture (SOA) technology and other improvements to standard mainframe infrastructures.

The suite, based on Software AG's Business Infrastructure solutions, is offered in several versions.

The Web Edition features Software AG's webMethods ApplinX component for "low-risk, non-invasive Web enablement." The SQL version offers "real-time, SQL-based access to relational and non-relational data sources...for standards-based mainframe data integration" via the company's ConnecX Adaptors, according to a Software AG announcement.

The high-end SOA Edition offers "service enablement, governance, and deployment of mainframe assets within an enterprise-scale SOA." It features the company's webMethods EntireX, webMethods Enterprise Service Bus, CentraSite and other components, the company said.

"For too long, enterprises have been left to address their application modernization requirements tactically with stopgap solutions," commented Software AG's President Dr. Peter Kürpick, in a prepared statement. "Long-term business agility can only be achieved when an organization can leverage its mainframe assets within an enterprise SOA. This ensures that critical functionality is readily accessible across all of the core business processes of the enterprise."

Another featured component of the company's SOA suite is Modern Workbench, developed by Software AG partner Relativity Technologies. The software serves as a "needed on-ramp to SOA by transforming existing mainframe applications into SOA-ready code," according to the company.

"By using our technology to enhance the capabilities offered by the webMethods suite, enterprises can take advantage of a turnkey and automated process for the modernization of their application code into reusable Web services," commented Steve Maysonave, chairman and CEO of Relativity Technologies, in another released statement.

More information on all three versions of the suite can be found here.
