CA Enhances Modeling Tool for SQL Server

CA has released a new version of a data modeling tool called ERwin Data Modeler r7.2. It's part of a suite that CA offers for design and modeling using relational databases, particularly Microsoft SQL Server 2005. The ERwin Modeling Suite also supports business analysis and requirements gathering.

The Suite works with the Microsoft Visual Studio development environment to create managed objects. Users can reverse-engineer managed objects from Visual Studio into ERwin Data Modeler for "metadata visualization, integration and reporting purposes," according to an announcement issued by CA.

ERwin Data Modeler r7.2 lets users more easily "discover unplanned or unscheduled model changes," according to the announcement. It has flexible name management capabilities and a PDF index feature for navigation through large reports.

Version r7.2 of the ERwin Data Modeler now integrates with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Database Professionals. It supports MySQL, DB2 9 and Sybase IQ, in addition to Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

Components of the Suite are part of the CA Database Management platform, which automates daily database operations.  Suite components can be licensed individually or altogether.

The CA ERwin Modeling Suite starts at $6,995, but CA also offers free trials here.
