Microsoft announced Tuesday it is shipping one of the first key pieces of its Dynamic Systems Initiative, also called DSI.
The company says it is shipping System Center Operations Manager 2007, with general availability scheduled for early next week, a move that was expected. (See "Microsoft Operations Manager 2007 to RTM in March.") It is the first "fully branded" System Center product to released, a spokesperson stated by e-mail.
The announcement came at the Microsoft Management Summit 2007 conference in San Diego.
As part of Microsoft's System Center suite of management applications, Operations Manager 2007 aims to make it easier for customers to extend and integrate IT event and performance monitoring to improve service levels in IT environments. It is a key deliverable of the overall DSI vision and roadmap, according to a company statement.
Microsoft also announced more of its near-term System Center plans.
For instance, Systems Management Server Service Pack 3 (SMS SP3) with AssetMetrix has been released to manufacturing or RTM. It is designed to help customers better plan Windows Vista migrations through identification of systems compliancy and reconciliation of software purchased versus software installed, and to categorize applications for consolidation during migration.
Also, System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) version 2 Beta 2 will be available for public testing within the next 30 days. DPM V2 Beta 2 will provide protection and recovery for SharePoint 2007, Virtual Server 2005 and Windows XP and Windows Vista desktops
The first public beta test version of System Center Service Manager (formerly known as Service Desk) will begin within 30 days. And System Center Virtual Machine Manager Beta 2 will be available within the next 45 days.
