ActiveState Beefs Up Perl Dev Kit

ActiveState has released a new version of its Perl development kit to create self-contained executable files for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Solaris, AIX and HP-UX platforms.
The company's Perl Dev Kit (PDK) version 7.0 features graphical debugging, a coverage analyzer and hotspot analyzer. The Kit also makes it easier to convert VBScript code to Perl using Perl-based filters.
The Kit's Coverage Analyzer lets users identify untested or bottleneck code. It's an extension of the Devel::Cover Perl module and allows users to assess the performance of the code before releasing executable files.
The PDK release also includes PerlApp for creating executable files. PerlApp uses module wrapping to improve the performance of executable files. Unix versions of PerlApp have been redesigned to use dynamically linked runtime libraries, which reduces the size of executable files.
ActiveState offers its Perl development tools in three editions: PDK Productivity Tools, PDK Deployment Tools and a bundled version combining the first two options called PDK Pro Pack.
ActiveState added native 64-bit support for Windows, Linux and Solaris with this release, as well as support for Mac OS X.
