JBoss Adds ESB to Open Source SOA Platform

Enterprise Linux provider Red Hat is diving deeper into service-oriented architecture with this week's announcement of an enterprise service bus, from its JBoss division. The ESB, built on technology donated by an insurance company, fills in a hole in the JBoss Enterprise Middleware Suite (JEMS). The new technology was announced this week at JBoss World, in Berlin, Germany.
JBoss ESB 4.0, which acts as the intermediator between applications, services and middleware, is another component of the JBoss/Red Hat open-source SOA platform. The platform includes the JBoss app server, JBoss rules engine, JBoss messaging (MQ), and JBoss business process management applications. The ESB, which features a pluggable architecture, service registry and persisted event repository, is integrated with JBoss Rules and JBossMQ. JBoss plans to integrate the ESB with its jBPM technology. In addition, the company is looking to extend the new technology through partnerships.
A JBoss ESB 4.0 release candidate is available now. It runs on Linux, Windows and Solaris and is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License.
