Orrtax selects Seapine’s CM tools to dev 2006 tax suite

Tax preparation software provider Orrtax is already working on the next release of its IntelliTax suite of products for the 2006 tax year. To streamline product development, Orrtax will use change management tools from Seapine Software.

“We’ve been using Microsoft’s Visual SourceSafe for our source code management needs for some time now, but with our configuration management and issue management process needs becoming increasingly more complex, it became apparent that we needed a comprehensive and robust CM solution,” says Bill Meneely, PMP program manager at Orrtax Software Solutions.

Seapine CM consists of TestTrack Pro and Surround SCM. This scalable, cross-platform toolset allows dev teams to manage and track source code, digital assets, bugs, change requests, and issues throughout the dev lifecycle. Appropriate for both agile and structured dev processes, according to Seapine, the CM solution promotes team collaboration with features such as advanced code branching, secure remote access, the ability to link changes with issues, file versioning, and seamless integration into dev and build processes. SoloSubmit, a TestTrack Pro add-on, allows an unlimited number of users and customers to submit issues and feature requests to TestTrack Pro projects via a Web browser.

After reviewing 21 SCM tools, which were ultimately narrowed down to five finalists, Orrtax selected Seapine’s Surround SCM for its advanced branching capabilities and seamless integration with TestTrack Pro for defect tracking, says Meneely. Orrtax purchased a mix of named and floating licenses for Seapine CM, TestTrackPro, Surround SCM, and SoloSubmit to deploy to its dev teams.

“Orrtax releases new products each year, and Surround SCM will enable us to take advantage of prior code sets to accelerate the development of new features,” he says. “We also have plans outside of development to use TestTrack Pro to link help desk support with development to efficiently process trouble tickets and manage release changes.”
