Rational Unified Process Pioneer Aligns with Microsoft

Ivar Jacobson Consulting said on Monday that it has joined Microsoft's Visual Studio 2005 Team System through the Microsoft Visual Studio Industry Partner program. The consulting company was founded by Ivar Jacobson, sometimes called the father of RUP.

The company is preparing the Essential Unified Process (Essential UP) based on the Microsoft Solutions Framework and integrated with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System. Essential UP is an evolution of the Unified Process originally developed 10 years ago, which forms the foundation of RUP, the consulting company says. Essential UP differs in that it is a departure from heavy process techniques and offers substantial improvements based on more than 10 years of customer experience.

For users of RUP or Unified Process, Essential UP offers advanced updated techniques to provide a streamlined and lightweight alternative for modern organizations seeking to adopt software engineering best practices with less overhead, complexity and disruption, the company claims.

By adding the Essential UP to the Microsoft Solutions Framework, software development teams will be able to follow key process steps which are instantiated from directly within Visual Studio 2005 Team System, designed for both individual and team productivity, according to the company.
