Network Appliance Intros a Security Initiative for Enterprise Storage

Network Appliance on Wednesday unveiled the Uncompromised Security Initiative,
a program the company claims challenges the status quo of data security and
promises to deliver industry-best solutions to the enterprise.
There are two core tenets that define uncompromised security, NetApps said
in a prepared statement. First, most security solutions focus on the network
perimeter or specific devices and people, but fail to provide security for data
throughout its entire lifecycle. Very few solutions secure the data itself as
it is stored and transported across multiple heterogeneous systems. An uncompromised
security approach provides strong protection for data--regardless of its location
or what devices it touches--and while that data is in flight and at rest across
the entire enterprise.
Second, enterprises do not have the option of trading off performance, interoperability,
high availability or simplicity when they deploy security solutions, NetApp
continued. There is no room for compromises, given the critical nature of IT.
NetApp products that meet the company’s notion of uncompromised security
include Decru DataFort storage security appliances, NetApp disk systems running
Data ONTAP security features and NetCache Internet access and security appliances.
In addition to building security into all areas of its product portfolio, NetApp
is rolling out a variety of educational tools to help customers better understand
their data security risks and the ways they can tune their IT infrastructure
to mitigate those risks without having to rip and replace or make unrealistic
investments. NetApp is also hosting a variety of seminars, tutorials and other
forums on security.
