Identity Engines Delivers Platform for Network ID Management

Identity Engines on Monday introduced an enterprise-grade platform designed to deliver highly reliable, centrally-managed network identity management services. The new Identity Engines Ignition appliance enables enterprises to implement centralized security policies despite the increasing complexity brought on by numerous identity stores, complex network design and constantly changing organizational structures, the company says.

Enterprises are increasingly demanding, and being legislated to ensure that only authorized users are granted access to their network and that users' activities are consistent with their roles in the organization. Consequently, a heavy burden has been placed on corporate IT departments to implement these corporate goals and emerging regulatory requirements, IE says. This burden, combined with the forces of the fading enterprise perimeter, growing user populations, and the ever-increasing complexity of identity stores and networks, has created a significant challenge for IT administrators.

"With the increase in network complexity and the growing number of security concerns, network-based identity management is now a 'gotta have' in large organizations," says Jon Oltsik, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "In spite of this requirement, most identity management solutions focus on securing applications, leaving the network extremely exposed. Ignition complements application protection, significantly improving overall enterprise security, and ensures that confidential information access is restricted to the right people."

Identity Engines created the Ignition appliance for comprehensive network identity management by simplifying how IT administrators secure networks. The hardened appliance is designed for quick and seamless deployment into enterprise IT infrastructures through its support for widely supported protocols such as RADIUS and 802.1x, the company claims. Ignition integrates with common identity stores such as Microsoft's Active Directory as well as popular LDAP directories from enterprise vendors such as Sun Microsystems and Novell.
