News from JavaOne: Ilog JViews support BPMN, JavaServer Faces

Ilog has announced a new version of its Ilog JViews 6.0 component family that allows customers to separately buy some family members. As well, JViews 6.0 features new specialized components to support business process management (BPM) on the Java platform. The announcement was made at the JavaOne Worldwide Developers Conference being held this week at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

"We broke up the suite into different displays," said Ed Kiraly, product manager at Ilog. "One is for charts, another for diagrams, another for map and so on." The ability to sell standalone chart-building IDEs to customers whose sole need is for chart-builders will enhance Ilog's efforts to hit the lower end of the tools market, Kiraly suggested.

Meanwhile, the new JViews graphics toolkit for Business Process Management Notation (BPMN) is also of interest. Kiraly said the product supports new Java standards for telecom operational support services apps, as well as JavaServer Faces for creating thin clients.

"Development teams can use this to build modelers and BAM [Business Activity Monitoring] displays," said Kiraly. Moreover, he said, JavaServer Faces support will go a long way toward easing the task of user interface development in the Java world.

"Developing a thin Java client supporting -- for example, DHTML -- is a pain today. You have to use JSPs and do a lot of hand coding. What we have been missing is a visual way to do it," said Kiraly who indicated that JViews can be called from Sun's new Java Studio Creator package.
