At its annual user group conference in Orlando, Fla., Computer Associates (CA) announced a reorganization into five brand units based on six brands.

CA's new organization strategy will center on Unicenter for enterprise management; eTrust for security management; BrightStor for storage management; CleverPath and AllFusion for portal, business intelligence and life-cycle management; and Advantage for mainframe technology and data management.

"We will maintain a unified sales organization, which customers have told us they want," said CA President and CEO Sanjay Kumar. He also said there would be no workforce reductions as a result of the reorganization.

The company, which expended a serious effort in recent years to acquire a greater professional services stake, said it formed an alliance with Ernst & Young LLP to offer clients a portfolio of security resources designed to safely extend e-business systems to suppliers, agents, partners and customers.

In terms of application development tools, CA announced new releases of several AllFusion solutions. These include its popular ERwin Data Modeler, as well as Data Model Validator, Process Modeler and Component Modeler.

A beta release of AllFusion Change Manager Enterprise Workbench is said to integrate complex software development processes across mainframe and distributed platforms, while Release 4.0 of AllFusion Endevor Change Manager, scheduled for beta release next month, features Unix System Services support.

In addition, Release 5.1 of AllFusion Harvest Change Manager is said to include support for Microsoft's Visual Studio .NET and IBM WebSphere Studio as well as an enhanced Web interface.

At CA World 2002, the company introduced Unicenter products for managing multivendor wireless environments. Unicenter Wireless Network Management (WNM) and Unicenter Mobile Device Management (MDM) handle wireless network infrastructures and mobile devices. Unicenter WNM provides automatic discovery of wireless access points and LAN devices, data collection, integrated intrusion detection and topology visualizations. Unicenter MDM supports wireless device identification, configuration and change management, and automated software update distribution.
