Precise buys rights to EMC toolset

[MARCH 13, 2002] - Precise Software Solutions has acquired from EMC Corp. the exclusive rights to sell and support the Luminate Analysis Suite for SAP R/3. The deal calls for Precise to assume all customer service contracts from approximately 200 existing EMC customers using the toolset.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Under the agreement, Precise has agreed to hire an undisclosed number of EMC-Luminate employees to ensure the continuity of business operations. In addition, Precise has assumed responsibility for developing and enhancing the Luminate tool suite.

Precise officials also said the EMC tool would be integrated with the Precise i3 suite of application performance management tools.

User Jeff Duly, SAP Basis Integration and development manager at Dow Corning, described the shift in responsibility for the product set as "a good move for us" because of Precise's "focus on application performance management."

Others noted the deal may give the product category more visibility among users of SAP AG's complex application packages. Derek Pryor, research director at Gartner Group, noted that it is "vital for SAP customers to proactively manage their end-to-end environments effectively in order to deliver reliable Service Level Agreements to senior business management."

The Luminate Analysis Suite for SAP is described as an end-to-end solution for business-focused, service-level management, performance analysis, problem identification and capacity planning for SAP environments. Precise officials maintained that integrating its i3 suite and the Luminate Analysis Suite for SAP can create a proactive application performance management solution that provides high-quality business metrics to manage SAP service levels.
