Pacific Edge adds Connector to portfolio

[MARCH 14, 2002] - Corporate IT efforts to bring information on multiple projects into a single view are not without drawbacks, according to executives at Pacific Edge Software, a maker of portfolio management solutions.
"People end up taking a detour sometimes," said Rob Dickerson, president and CEO, Pacific Edge. "They may get too deep into project management." By that, Dickerson means staffs may decide to try and normalize too many diverse project metrics and, as a result, get sidetracked from their real job -- to accomplish projects.
Pacific Edge's goal is to create software that provides meaningful summaries of project metrics, without getting bogged down.
One of the latest additions to Pacific Edge's set of project portfolio management software is the Project Office Connector for Microsoft Project, which provides bi-directional XML-based connectivity between Pacific Edge's Project Office and Microsoft Project 2000. As a result, users of the fairly ubiquitous Microsoft Project package can summarize and publish their planning data directly into Project Office. As corporate plans change, Microsoft Project plans can be updated via changes made at the portfolio level.
