IBM Announces Native Cloud Capabilities for Software Line via Red Hat Containers

IBM today announced that its software portfolio is now "cloud-native" and primed to run via Red Hat's OpenShift enterprise Kubernetes container solution on all of the most popular public cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud and Google Cloud, as well as private cloud setups.

IBM says it's delivering this capability via IBM Cloud "Paks." These bundles provide "containerized software [that will] provide a common operating model and common set of services -- including identity management, security, monitoring and logging -- and are designed to improve visibility and control across clouds together with a unified and intuitive dashboard."

According to the announcement made on Aug. 1, more than 100 IBM products will be optimized to run on Red Hat OpenShift.

IBM also announced Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud, a new offering that offers a "one-click" deploy option for OpenShift on IBM Cloud; Red Hat Open Shift on IBM Z and Linux ONE, an offering customized for these platforms; and related Red Hat consulting services.

Live launch dates for the above were not provided.

IBM announced it was acquiring Red Hat last year, and completed the acquisition in June.
